Greenled has been closely collaborating with Vatajankoski and Kankaanpää since 2019, and this partnership continues. The lighting fixtures used in Kankaanpää include models such as Vega, Sirius, and Polaris. The street lighting modernization projects carried out in Kankaanpää have been a crucial step in enhancing the city's image and safety. Vatajankoski (vatajankoski.fi), a long-term partner of Kankaanpää city, has been responsible for the projects, with Greenled supplying the lighting fixtures. These projects have involved the modernization of various locations in Kankaanpää, including the Niinisalo emergency landing site and the Paasikivenkatu in the city center. The goals of the projects have been to improve safety, increase energy efficiency, and reduce light pollution in urban areas.

Responsibility and Reliability as Key Factors

The procurement process emphasized responsible supply chains, reliability of delivery, and the quality and price of the lighting fixtures. Olli Härmälä, a designer at Vatajankoski, states that the lighting fixtures supplied by Greenled met these requirements excellently. "We have been extremely satisfied with our collaboration with Greenled. Deliveries have been swift, and communication has been smooth," Härmälä reports.

“Improving safety for pedestrians and minimizing light pollution were important criteria,” says Construction Director Jarno Joensuu. Härmälä adds, “With the new LED luminaires, energy consumption has decreased by up to 40% compared to the old lighting.”

Centralized Remote Management and Energy Savings

The lights supplied by Greenled to Kankaanpää are controlled by a centralized remote management system. This has helped optimize traffic safety and light usage, as the lighting can be adjusted as needed.

Pre-assembled and pre-wired fixtures facilitated installation

The smooth progress of the projects was also supported by Greenled's preparatory work, which significantly accelerated the installation process. This preparation included factory cabling to the correct length, factory programming of dimming profiles, and position-specific markings on each fixture. Given the large number of fixtures to be replaced in the projects, pre-assembly and pre-wiring brought efficiency to the installations.

"This kind of ready-prepared package greatly eased our work and sped up the overall process", Joensuu praises.

Domestic production and future needs

For Vatajankoski, domestic production was also an important selection criterion. Greenled's domestic, Finnish-made fixtures meet Vatajankoski's sustainability requirements, particularly in terms of a smaller carbon footprint and transparent quality assurance.

"Domestic production supports both delivery reliability and environmental responsibility", Härmälä adds.

Looking to the future, Kankaanpää has prepared to transition to LED lighting before the ban on high-pressure sodium lamps in 2027. So far, 80% of the area's lighting has already been converted to LEDs, and the project is on schedule to be completed by 2026.

"We are ahead of schedule, which has helped with budget management and made the lighting transitions smooth", says Härmälä.
